About Cellular Shades?

Cellular shades, also known as honeycomb shades, are a more traditional window treatment featuring unique, air-trapping cells that open up like an accordion. While their design offers decent insulation by trapping air within the cells, they also trap dust, bugs, and other particles, making them high-maintenance and difficult to clean. These shades are known for their top-down, bottom-up functionality, which allows you to control privacy and light from both directions—a feature not commonly available with other shades. However, the papery feel and outdated appearance make them less appealing compared to more modern alternatives like roller shades and duo shades.

Smart Operation

Motorized roller shades bring convenience and seamless control to your space, allowing you to adjust them with a remote, smartphone, or voice assistant. Available in rechargeable battery-powered or hardwired options, they offer a wire-free setup or continuous power solution to fit your needs. Battery-powered motors require no wiring and recharge every 6–12 months via USB-C, while an optional solar panel add-on keeps them charged automatically. With smart home integration, you can schedule shade movements, control them remotely, and adjust settings hands-free using your smart home assistant.

FAQ

What are cellular shades?
Cellular shades, also known as honeycomb shades, are window treatments made up of folded cells that open up like an accordion. They are designed to provide insulation by trapping air within their cells.
How do cellular shades operate?
They can be raised or lowered like traditional shades. They are also the only shade type that offers top-down, bottom-up functionality, allowing light control from both the top and bottom of the window.
Are cellular shades modern or outdated?
Cellular shades are considered more traditional and outdated compared to modern alternatives like roller shades and duo shades. Their papery feel and bulky appearance don’t match the sleek, stylish look of today’s preferred options.
Do cellular shades collect dust and bugs?
Yes, the cells of cellular shades tend to trap dust, bugs, and debris, making them more challenging to keep clean and well-maintained.
Are cellular shades good for light control and privacy?
While they do provide some privacy and light control, their appearance and maintenance issues often outweigh their benefits. Roller shades and duo shades offer better light control, style, and functionality.
Can cellular shades be motorized?
Although some cellular shades can be motorized, their mechanisms are typically more limited compared to roller shades and other modern options that offer seamless motorization with advanced controls.
Are cellular shades durable?
They are reasonably durable but are prone to damage from dust, bugs, and general wear and tear. The papery material can easily crease, rip, or become stained over time.
What is the warranty coverage?
Our shades come with a limited lifetime warranty. As long as you remain in your home and the issue is due to our fault, we will replace your shades at no charge. Be sure to register your shades to be eligible for any warranty claims.
How long does Manufacturing take?
Our shades can be manufactured in as little as two days, but due to high order volumes, installation typically takes place within a few days to 2–6 weeks after ordering. For urgent needs, we offer expedited manufacturing to prioritize your order. In rare cases, delays may occur if fabrics are discontinued or unavailable at our DFW production facility.
How long will Installation take?
Installation time depends on the number of windows and how level they are. For an entire home, installation typically takes 4–5 hours. Please ensure an adult is present during installation and that the walkways to the windows are clear for our team.
Will there be gaps on the sides?
Yes, a small sliver of light will be visible on both sides due to the shade’s operating mechanism. In Texas homes, where walls are often not perfectly straight, we take measurements from the narrowest point to ensure a proper fit, which may result in slightly larger gaps. If this is a concern, you can opt for side channels to minimize the light gaps.
